MacBook bootcamp BSOD
So…bootcamp. What the heck is bootcamp Are you not a bit old to go on a schoolcamp????
Yes yes, I now. I am a newbee at Mac OSX. So, in the blind I installed WMWare Fusion. But, couldn’t afford a Macbook pro or fancy 4Gb memory at this time so the performance is…so so…
Therefore, I’ve tried using bootcamp. A easy (and I mean, really easy!) way of dual boot. Great marketing trick by the way to give this simple optoin a fancy name ‘bootcamp’.
At first, everything looked fine. However, very soon the problems started: my Macbook kept rebooting after the good old Blue Screen of Death….yes, that has been a while!
And, this was looking nog good: the BSOD kept coming back more and more. Interesting detail that at first (installed WinXP-SP2 from CD) this didn’t happen and the system looked stable. After installing all updates de BSOD came up….coincidence?
Doing my share of research I came many many forum-topics complaining about this. One solution came back several times:
It’s the Windows multi-touch trackpad driver released by Apple. Consider the following:
1. I get constant BSODs (as in several per day) when using the trackpad, esp. when playing a game where there’s constant trackpad use.
2. I never get a BSOD when using a mouse.
3. I never get a BSOD when using the trackpad within Parallels, only within Boot Camp. Parallels uses the Mac multi-touch driver via a special pass-through mechanism, and NOT the multi-touch Windows driver they provide through Boot Camp. Keep in mind that when in Parallels, I’m just using my Boot Camp partition (in other words, exact same Winders install), so all other things should be equal.
Sadley ,this did not work for me.
Then found another solution, disableling the Broadcom driver. Well, tried a lot with this, but also no solution.
Almost giving up and moving back to WMware I made one last attempt. Analysing the eventviewer log I found that the following wat causing some failure: \Device\ACPIEC.
Also, there is a warning about the bluetooth device. With that information I found somebody who told me to update the Geforce 9400 driver and disable the bluetooth.
This I did. And…with succes!
I haven’t had the guts to turn bluetooth on to see if the driver did it. For now I am to happy to experiment again……
